Freddie reads
Yesterday, he was looking at pictures of our family and he pointed out, "Papa" "Nee-na" ("Nana"), then he started quizzing me asking, "Sue-sis?" ("Who's this?")

Sammy and Ivy, hanging in a tree [house]!
He's acting cool in this picture but Sammy totally adores Ivy. Today when they were on the teeter-totter together he said, "I love Ivy." And a minute or so later, "Will's a fun kid." (Will is Ivy's older brother, who is Sammy's age. Sammy probably didn't want us thinking he likes a girl best. ha!) !
Sunset over Lake Hiawatha.
My friend Mo called me this afternoon to invite us to join them at a local park. My first thought was, "You're nuts!" But then I reconsidered and we went.
It was nearly 30 degrees outside with little wind, and considering last week it was 50 degrees colder (at -27) it felt nice. Tomorrow it's suppose to get bitterly cold again so we had to head out while we could, and Sammy really enjoyed it. Poor Freddie *loathes* walking in snow, and there's a lot of it on the ground. Thankfully, he is happy as a clam in a swing.
Our Duluth weekend adventure!
Our ride:

Ashley, Sammy and Jacob

Jess, Freddie, Cody
It was very cool riding in real horse-draw sleigh. It was very cold, too, and not at all what I was expecting. I felt dumb for not having my kids in snowpants and boots, but I was totally thinking "Junior League sleigh-ride" and imagining ladies in high-heeled boots and made-up to the nines out there. Not so! It was really outdoorsy (really!) and I hope we can go back next year now that I know what to expect. The boys will be decked out in outdoor winter wear and Jacob will wear thicker socks and bring his own boots (Jacob nearly lost his feet from the cold). Except, I still think I'll pass on walking on the frozen lake....
Thanks again, Ashley and Cody, for having us!
OUCH

He and Sammy were sharing a mini-trampoline (against the rules). I was about two seconds from removing Freddie when he fell, kind of backward on a jump, Sammy bounced again and Freddie's head got stuck under the sideboard of the trampoline. I had to push down on the trampoline to get him out, while saying "sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!" in a room full of preschoolers and younger folks (although Leah said I wasn't loud). I got him out and he screamed a little, but after about 10 minutes of cuddle time his trauma was forgotten and he was ready to get back to running, climbing and jumping. It took much longer for my adrenaline rush to subside.
He head looks much worse today. I will try to get another shot while there is daylight.
A Tom Cruise for the wee generation...

New word.

So, hello, Fra-tee. (Here he is asking for "side Fra-tee" aka upside-down Freddie.

He loves his mama and looks like his daddy. Isn't he cute?
Forgot to mention that he calls Sammy "Me-me"
New hair.

I know what you are thinking. And I agree. It's unbelievable that America's Next Top Model is not knocking down my door.
New rug!

Recent funny stories
- Jacob and Sammy were listening to a Beatles CD he made for us in the car. Paperback Writer came on and Jacob said something along the lines of, "This is probably one of my favorite Beatles bass lines of all time." When the next song came on (it was Oh Darling, for those interested) Sammy said, "This song has a really good drum track."
- My parents got us a massage chair for Christmas. While in Arkansas, Jacob was pretty much glued to James' chair. Since we've set ours up at home, Sammy's back has been hurting a lot (so he says) so he frequently needs to "take a massage."
- Sammy received a Cars shaving kit for Christmas, complete with a little fake shaver (more of a bath squirter toy in the shape of an electric shaver) and shaving foam (ie soap). On Sunday morning Sammy requested a special bath (we usually bathe the kids at night) so he could shave before church. The funniest bit? He shaves his legs! hahaha (He doesn't love to get his face wet.)
- Last night Sammy hurt his foot by stepping on an electrical plug (something was unplugged). There was a tiny flap of skin hanging off and this totally wigged him out. He refused to put pants on because it would hurt his foot. He did not want a band-aid on it, and he was convinced he could not walk. I carried him to bed last night and told him it would be nearly all better in the morning. This morning, I got a call from Sammy's room (usually he bounds down the stairs): he needed to be carried downstairs, and was convinced he could not walk on his foot until about lunchtime today when I somehow talked him into putting socks on to cushion his foot.
And a slight Freddie update, just for the heck of it. He is such a daredevil.
- He is constantly telling us to "Watch" and doing something crazy, like jumping off the couch or the table, or balancing on the arm of a chair.
-He climbs everywhere, and most days I catch him sitting on the table eating rather than in his seat. He's always climbing onto the toilet to reach the sink and run the water. Today I saw him climb into the bathtub with a cowboy hat on. (probably to get to his brother's shaver)
- He refuses to wear mittens. Not really funny, but just to prove how stubborn he is. It's cold here. He should keep his "mitts" on.
